Jan 2010 trip photos
Here are some photos from the small team that went to Haiti to do recovery work in January 2010. Go here for the trip report.
First post-earthquake SFH work
Back on Monday, January 25, Servants for Haiti sent its first team to work in post-earthquake Haiti. Three people, including two members of the SFH board, stayed between one and two weeks and accomplished a great deal. Here is a "diary" of their trip, mostly reprinted from an earlier blog from before this new site came online:
Tuesday, Jan 26, 2010:
They brought with them four heavy duty tents for the orphans, a water purifier, medical supplies, diapers, infant formula, and food: tuna, peanut butter, and more. They also brought money to purchase food and water. ...
Urgent Breaking News: Earthquake
The massive earthquake that hit Haiti on Tuesday, January 12, hit just 10 miles from Port-au-Prince where SFH supports a school (College Jean Rigaud Antoine) and an orphanage (Kingdom Kids Orphanage). International news media have carried the story in detail but many are anxious about the fate of SFH's projects and the children we support.
We are happy to say that neither the orphanage nor the school had any serious damage and no one involved with either work is known to be hurt. The children in the orphanage have been staying outside in case there are more ...
New Feeding Program Director
New Feeding Program Director at CJRA
The feeding program at College Jean Rigaud Antoine (CJRA) has a new director. Basile Joseph, a hard worker with the perfect temperament for the job, will oversee the feeding of the children enrolled in the school. Hopefully, we can increase his workload by constantly adding sponsored children and expanding the feeding program to include more unsponsored children. Contact us to see how you can help.
2009 Teams
A SFH team was in Haiti from June 24 to July 3, 2009. We will add reports from team members as we receive them.
This first report is from Julia, a 15-year-old on her first trip to Haiti. Sounds like it might not be her last!
Going to Haiti was definitely one of the best and most moving experiences of my young life. Before going, my family can tell you that I was very nervous and a little bit regretful of making the decision to go there. But upon arrival in the Port-au-Prince airport, I was certain that God had definitely called me to Haiti and that I was ...
Small Change Adds Up to Big Change in Students’ Lives
The Loose Change fundraiser described in the accompanying article is now complete. In the end, all those bottles filled with pennies, nickels, and dimes - yes, there were a few bills in there, too - added up to $7504.25. That money will go to feed unsponsored students at CJRA school. Now the kitchen staff won't have to turn away as many hungry students just because they haven't been sponsored yet.
Three New England churches combined for this fundraiser. Grace Community in Chelmsford, MA, raised $4143.49 on its own.
Would you like to part of the solution to ...

November 2008
November 2008 Trip
Here are two trip reports from the November 2008 Haiti team. First is a report from Jake, a youth pastor:
When someone goes to Haiti they inevitably bring a bit of Haiti back with them to where they came from. Perhaps your first thought goes to the items made by Haitian hands and then bartered for, but that isn't what I am referring to. Perhaps when I said that your thoughts went to the Haitian germs which, once they get into our foreign systems, act like an ex-Atkins diet person in a Subway sandwich shop, devouring everything in sight. That isn't ...
2008 Medical Trip
2008 Medical Trip
Here are two reports from the August/September medical trip. The first is from Ron V :
Just a few minutes after midnight on August 30th, four people gathered in Keene, NH to begin a week of ministry in Haiti. We knew very little about each other, but when the Lord gathers a team to do His work, He grows those individuals into a unit to be used for His purposes.
Our team included Ruth Ellen Davisson, experienced traveler and team leader (with about 12 previous visits); Ron Veenema returning for the third time; and two first timers, Julie Rossal ...
Summer 2008
Summer 2008
Here are two trip reports from the June/July 2008 team. They come from two very different perspectives. The first one is from Lucy, a first time visitor to Haiti. She is a student who entered college this fall. The second is from Natalie, a long time veteran of our Haiti trips. She first traveled there in summer of 2000 and has gone several times since.

In a world suffering from the effects of sin, disease, and cruelty, beauty can at times seem to be such an unexpected surprise. I was prepared somewhat for the poverty and sewage I saw in Haiti. I was ...
