CJRA and KKO buildings pass inspection

The two buildings that house the work of SFH, the orphanage and school, have both been inspected by officials and declared structurally sound.  While the children at the orphanage still sleep outside for fear of continuing aftershocks, they spend their days inside the orphanage, playing and eating there. The school needs some minor repair work - a couple of non-structural walls collapsed because they were not quite completed  - but it survived the quake miraculously well, for a building of its size and proximity to the quake's epicenter.

CJRA sponsorship update

We have received some questions regarding the status of the student sponsorship program at College Jean Rigaud Antoine (CJRA).  Specifically, people want to know where the money is going while the school is closed. First, we are working very hard to reopen the school.  It has been declared safe by Haitian authorities, but we have some minor repairs to make.  We must also await the permission of the government to reopen.  We are hoping that will happen very soon, since resuming school will help return a sense of normalcy to the students' lives. In the meantime, however, we still have expenses pertaining to the education of the students.  ...

KKO Adoption update

Many people have been asking about adoptions from Kingdom Kids Orphanage.  Here is the current status. Several children were already well into the adoption process when the earthquake hit.  All but one of those children have been brought to their new homes in the U.S. through humanitarian visas.  We are still working on the last of these. If you have just begun the adoption process, or wish to do so, please be aware that the full process will be followed.  This process can take years.  This is for the protection of the children involved. Many new children have been brought into the orphanage since the earthquake.  These children are ...

Tide to Tide for Haiti

We're particularly excited about this fund raiser to support Servants for Haiti.  Three young guys are doing a cross country bike ride to raise money and awareness for Haiti.  They're still in the planning stages, but check out their web site and see how you can help!

Hats Off (and On) to Haiti!

It will be hard to "top" this fund raising idea.  The kids in the small Champlain Valley Christian School in Vermont were given the chance to "break the rules" by wearing hats to school for Haiti.  Each student donated $2 for the privilege of wearing a baseball cap.   These capped rebels raised a total of $290!  Hats off to you, kids, for your support of Haitian children!

More SFH help headed to Haiti

Another small team heads down to Haiti on Friday, February 26.  We will bring you updates as we receive them.  At the very least, we will have a complete trip report and photos after they return on March 4. Servants for Haiti is committed to bringing consistent and long term support to our Haitian friends.  Your financial support will help us.  Also, give serious consideration to coming with us on a future trip.   You can make a difference in Haiti.  And Haiti will make a difference in you. [Update:  This team is home. We'll post a trip report as soon as possible.]

A Singularly Unique Fundraiser

The Single Again Ministry (SAM) of the Essex Alliance Church, Essex Junction, VT, (www.essexalliance.org) serves men and women who are single again through death, divorce or separation as well as those who have never been married.  Recently, they served a completely unique constituency. Twice a month they host dinners with games at the Community Center at the church.  As part of those gatherings, they perform community service projects.  At a recent meeting, Kingdom Kids orphanage was the beneficiary of their generosity.  Everyone in attendance was asked to bring a toiletry item for the orphanage.  As an incentive, they displayed pictures ...

Jan 2010 trip photos

Here are some photos from the small team that went to Haiti to do recovery work in January 2010.  Go here for the trip report.

First post-earthquake SFH work

Back on Monday, January 25, Servants for Haiti sent its first team to work in post-earthquake Haiti.  Three people, including two members of the SFH board, stayed between one and two weeks and accomplished a great deal.  Here is a "diary" of their trip, mostly reprinted from an earlier blog from before this new site came online: Tuesday,  Jan 26, 2010: They brought with them four heavy duty tents for the orphans, a water purifier, medical supplies, diapers, infant formula, and food: tuna, peanut butter, and more. They also brought money to purchase food and water. The money was especially helpful because the larger aid agencies had not yet ...

2009 Teams

A SFH team was in Haiti from June 24 to July 3, 2009.  We will add reports from team members as we receive them. This first report is from Julia, a 15-year-old on her first trip to Haiti.  Sounds like it might not be her last! Going to Haiti was definitely one of the best and most moving experiences of my young life.  Before going, my family can tell you that I was very nervous and a little bit regretful of making the decision to go there.  But upon arrival in the Port-au-Prince airport, I was certain that God had definitely called me to Haiti and that I was supposed to be there.  I fell in love with the people and the joy they had was ...
